    Each capsule of Florastor contains: Saccharomyces boulardii lyo 250mg equivalent to 5 billion live cells. Other ingredients include 32.5 mg of lactose monohydrate, 2.85 mg of magnesium distearate and coloring (titanium dioxide E171).

    A)
    Florastor is a natural probiotic that helps destroy pathogenic (bad) bacteria in your gut (bowels).

    Q) How does Florastor® work?
    A) Florastor helps the growth of good micro-organisms (bugs) and protects the bowels from bad micro-organisms that can cause diarrhea if there are too many bad (pathogenic) micro-organisms. Florastor keeps the balance between good and bad micro-organisms in your bowels normal.

    Q) What is Florastor® used for?
    A) Florastor decreases abdominal discomfort, reduces stool urgency, reduces loose and watery stools and restores normal bowel movements. Florastor is often used to help with;

    • Antibiotic-Associated loose and watery Stool -Maintaining normal gut bacteria before and after the taking of antibiotics
    • Acute/chronic loose and watery stool
    • Traveler’s loose and watery stool
    • Clostridium difficile associated loose and watery stool
    • Bloating and gas associated with bowel problems

    Q) Is Florastor® like acidophilus?
    A) No, Florastor is not really like acidophilus but they are both probiotics. Florastor is non-pathogenic (good) yeast, not a bacterium like acidophilus.

    Q) Can I take Florastor® if I am pregnant?
    A) Please ask your health care professional, there are no clinical studies on Florastor in pregnancy

    Q) How do I take Florastor®?
    A) For adults: Swallow the capsule whole.
    For children, or if you find it hard taking tablets: Break open the capsule and sprinkle the contents into cool drinks or formula. Capsule contents can also be added to foods like yogurt or applesauce.

    Q) How long can I take Florastor®?
    A) Unlike many other products Florastor is not limited to 48 hours. Florastor needs to be taken until the loose and watery stool is gone. If you want to keep taking Florastor to improve the health of your bowels you may do so. If you are taking other medications please check with your health care professional before you start with Florastor.

    Q) What size bottles does Florastor® come in?
    A) Florastor is sold in bottles of 10 capsules and bottles of 50 capsules.

    Q) Are there any animal products found in Florastor®?
    A) No there are no animal products in Florastor. The HPMC capsule is a vegetarian capsule.

    Q) Are there any Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) in Florastor®?
    A) No there are not any Genetically Modified Organisms found in Florastor.

    Q) Are there any side effects when taking Florastor®?
    A) No side effects have been reported except a few cases of fungemia when administered in hospitals to patients with central venous catheters.

    Q) Does Florastor® need to be refrigerated?
    A) No refrigeration is needed.

    Q) Can I take Florastor® with my antibiotics?
    A) Yes you can. Florastor is yeast, antibiotics do not harm it. In fact, Florastor will protect your body’s own flora during the course of antibiotics.

    Q) Florastor® has Lactose and I am dairy sensitive, can I still take Florastor®?
    A) Yes. There are no milk proteins found in Florastor. However, it does contain lactose monohydrate in a very small amount. Many lactose and dairy sensitive patients have reported good results while taking Florastor. As with any product, be sure to consult your health care professional first.

    Q) Has there been any research done on Florastor®?
    A) Yes. Saccharomyces boulardii lyo has been clinically tested for over 50 years. Please contact your health care professional for more information.

    Q) What does “clinically tested” mean?

    The active ingredient in Florastor, Saccharomyces boulardii lyo, has been tested and researched in numerous controlled, human, clinical trials. Infants, as well as the elderly were included in the studies and were conducted under the supervision of doctors and nurses.

    A) As with any product, you should consult your health care professional first.

    Q) Do I need to take Florastor® with food?
    A) Florastor can be taken with or without food.

    Q) I have difficulty swallowing capsules; can I empty the contents of Florastor® into food?
    A) Florastor can be mixed into food or juice (we recommend apple juice) for those who are not able to swallow tablets or capsules.

    Q) Does Florastor® or the Florastor® capsule contain gluten?
    A) No, Florastor and the capsule are gluten free.

    Q) Does Florastor® or the Florastor® capsule contain wheat or wheat products?
    A) No, Florastor and the capsule are wheat free.

    Q) Is Florastor® safe to take while taking other drugs? (Vitamins, dietary supplements, prescription drugs)
    A) Yes. Florastor is not affected by and will not interfere with most medications. However, Florastor should not be taken with oral systemic antifungal medications such as, Fluconazole, Nystatin, Ketoconazole, or Itraconazole. Natural antifungal or carminative like therapies such as, Garlic, Grape Seed extract, Oregon Grape, or Berberine, do not seem to disturb or affect the workings of Saccharomyces boulardii lyo found in Florastor.

    Q) What time of day should I take Florastor®?
    A) It is recommended to take one (1) capsule in the morning and one (1) capsule in the evening.

    Q) If I am allergic to yeast, can I still take Florastor®?
    A) Florastor has been studied in recurring yeast infections (Candida) and has shown to be 60-70% effective. The yeast that most people develop allergies to is pathogenic yeast. Saccharomyces boulardii lyo is non-pathogenic yeast. As with any product, consult your health care professional before taking Florastor.
